ホテルニュージャパン 'Hotel New Japan'

ホテル火災として史上最悪の事故となったホテルニュージャパンの火災。

火災後、しばらくその土地はそのまま放置されていて、数々の怪談が囁かれた。

その場所で、タクシーが客を拾う。
「お客さん、どこまでですか？」
「青山までお願いします」

消え入りそうな声でしゃべる女。
うつむいたままで、顔もはっきりと見えない。異常に暗い女だ。
そして、その女からは焼肉の匂いがする。

「ふん、気取った女だが、焼肉食べってんのか」
運転手は笑った。高級なスーツに身を包み、キャリアウーマンの女性が焼肉を食べてきたばかりだったのがおかしく思えたのだ。
「それにしても焦げ焼きすぎたんじゃないか」
運転手はふと思った。
「ここから、青山の近くですか」
途中で振り向いた運転手は愕然とした。
後部座席には誰もいなかったのだ。
「ああああ！あの女がいない」
もちろん、降りた形跡はない。
「あの女、ゆ、幽霊だあ！」
運転手はやっと理解した。
あの女は、有名なホテルニュージャパンの火災で命を落とした幽霊だったということを。
女の消えた車内には、肉が焦げたような匂いが残っていた。そのタクシーからは、しばらく肉の匂いが消えなかった。
こんなことが度々あった。
そのため、タクシードライバーたちは、ホテルニュージャパンの跡地では絶対に客を乗せなくなったという。

ホテルニュージャパンの火災にまつわる話は他にある。
火災直後、まだ火事の残骸があった場所から

「助けてくれ～」
という呼び声が聞こえたり、白い人影が目撃されたりした。
霊たちは、まだの迷っていたのだ。

ちなみに跡地に本社ビルを建てた某生命保険会社は、バブル崩壊後、倒産した….。
火災現場の犠牲者たちの成仏を心から祈りたい。

This story is about a fire at ‘Hotel New Japan’- the worst hotel fire in history.
After the fire, the area where the hotel had stood was neglected, and there were whispers of many ghost stories.

A taxi went to the place where the hotel had once been, to pick up a customer.

“Where to, madam?”

“To Aoyama, please,” said the woman, who talked with a distant voice.
Her head was bowed, meaning that the taxi driver could not see her face properly. She seemed like an unusually dark woman. And her clothes smelt of yakiniku (fried meat).

“Well, you appear to be a woman but… you’ve been eating yakiniku?” the taxi driver laughed. He thought it strange that this career-woman dressed in a top-of-the-range suit, had just been eating yakiniku.
Either way, she’s burnt something, the driver had thought.

“Is Aoyama close by?”
But as the driver turned round, he was astonished.
There was no body in the back seat.

“Ohhh! The woman is gone!”

Of course, there were no traces of her.

“That woman… was a…g..ghost!!”
At last, the driver understood that it was the ghost of a woman who had lost her life in the fire at ‘Hotel New Japan.’
In the car from which the woman had vanished, the smell of burnt meat lingered. It never went away.
And these incidents were numerous.
For that reason, taxi drivers completely stopped picking up customers from that spot.

There are other stories about the fire at ‘Hotel New Japan.’
Because the wreckage of the building was left there after the fire, people often reported to have heard voices calling for help, or to have seen white human shadows- the spirits were still lost.
Incidentally, the headquarters of a life insurance firm were built where the hotel had once been… but the company went bankrupt after the crash of the bubble economy.
I pray that the victims of the fire rest in peace.
